About Robinson State Park

Robinson State Park, located primarily in Agawam with parts extending into Westfield and West Springfield, Massachusetts, encompasses more than 800 acres of protected open space. The park is characterized by mature hardwood forests, wetlands, ponds, and the meandering Chicopee River, creating a diverse natural setting for visitors. Established in 1934 on land donated by the Robinson family, it is the first state park in Massachusetts. The park features more than 12 miles of multi-use trails popular for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, offering visitors a range of terrain from gentle woodland paths to more rugged river-edge routes. The park's water bodies provide opportunities for fishing and seasonal ice skating. Wildlife is abundant, with species such as white-tailed deer, various bird species including woodpeckers and hawks, and various small mammals common throughout the park. Robinson State Park’s combination of forest, water, and trail access makes it a favored destination for local families and outdoor enthusiasts. Facilities include picnic areas and ample parking, with several trailheads providing easy access points. The park's setting along the Chicopee River helps protect important riparian habitats and offers scenic views throughout the seasons, making it popular year-round. Visitor appeal is boosted by its accessibility from nearby urban areas while retaining a sense of natural retreat.
